Transportation
Highway System
Interstate 95 and US Highway 17 are both four-lane highways running north to south from New York to Florida.
- Interstate 40 is a four-lane interstate running east to west from California to Wilmington, with a future extension bringing the interstate into Brunswick County.
- US Highway 74/76 is four-lanes running east to west towards Charlotte.
- Interstate 74 is a planned interstate from Rockingham to Brunswick County.
Railroads
CSX Transportation Davis Yard in Leland provides freight transportation and serves as the base for switching operations. It is a three mile long facility with 55 separate tracks and a 2,250 car capacity.
Water Transportation
The North Carolina State Port in Wilmington is 26 miles from open sea and is maintained at 38’ mean-low water. The port offers containerized, breakbulk, RO/RO and bulk cargo capabilities. There is 1,132,582 square feet of warehouses, including 30,000 square feet of refrigerated storage.
- The Cape Fear River is maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers and has a mean-low water depth of 42’.
- The Intracoastal Waterway is maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers and serves barge traffic along a north/south route. Maintains a 12’ mean-low water depth.
Air Service
Wilmington International Airport is served by major US airlines and schedules 42 flights daily.
- Brunswick County Airport has a 4,000 foot by 75 foot runway that is paved and lighted. Provides fuel services, airplane maintenance, repairs and flight instruction.
- Ocean Isle Airport has a 4,000 foot by 75 foot runway that is paved and lighted and provides a tie down service.
