Featured Member - Shallotte/Brunswick Beaches KOA

Tommy and Wanda Bradsher opened the Shallotte/Brunswick Beaches KOA on March 1, 2003.

Tommy and Wanda, who have always been self-employed, were beginning to plan their retirements when Tommy visited a campground in Florida. The owner, a fellow Shriner, testified to the happiness he had found in operating a campground upon retiring. So sincere was the gentleman's testimony that Tommy began to entertain the idea of opening his own campground. After researching the possibilities, it was decided by both Tommy and Wanda that a KOA was the best way to go. With 5 children and 8 grandchildren, the couple had family in mind when the plans began for the campground. Their goal was to create an affordable vacation option for families who want to come to the beach. With the perfect location just 5 miles from the beach, construction began.

Today, with a new total of 9 grandchildren, the Shallotte/Brunswick Beaches KOA is beginning their 7th season.

While Tommy handles all of the maintenance matters, his daughter Kortney can be found behind the front desk ready to serve the campers. The campground boasts President's Awards from the past four years they have been in operation, and continue to strive to fulfill their original goal. The couple contributes their success to hard work, determination, and great campers!

Environmentally Responsible Coastal Printing & Graphics

Gets Even Greener with GreenWorks

Shallotte , NC — January 26, 2010 — Coastal Printing & Graphics has been steadily building its reputation in the region as an environmentally-sensitive printer. And now Coastal Printing is a recognized recipient of the GreenWorks Environmental Recognition Award, a special green initiative developed by Agfa Graphics.

“By investing in products that minimize our footprint on the environment and by implementing policies that effectively reduce, reuse and recycle on a daily basis, we are leading the way to a greener and brighter future in the graphic communications industry,” says Jimmy Bellamy, president, Coastal Printing. “We are honored to receive the GreenWorks Environmental Recognition Award from Agfa and will continue to keep searching for new ways to reduce our impact on the environment.”

Agfa, one of the world’s leading imaging and information technology companies, has bestowed the GreenWorks designation upon Coastal Printing & Graphics as it is a leader in environmental responsibility in this region.

The following are among the installations, implementations and policy changes at Coastal Printing that led to the company’s current status as an environmental leader:

  • Installation of chemistry-free printing plates
  • Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certification
  • Use of non-VOC and soy-based inks.
  • Recycling of all paper, cardboard and metal plates
  • The use of Energy Star interior lighting

“Many leading printers are adopting greener policies today as they realize the implications that non action will have for future generations. Coastal Printing has proven that they are doing their part in many decisive ways, from the products they are using to the way they run their business day after day,” says Thomas Saggiomo, president, Agfa Graphics, North America. “We developed our GreenWorks program to support and help move environmental efforts forward, and Coastal Printing has taken that cue and ran with it on its own, to an even greater achievement than we had anticipated.”

Featured Member- Cubelet Ice, Inc

Cubelet Ice, Inc started approximately 42 years ago in the trunk of a car.

Lynn Holden and his brother had two customers that they sold ice to at the time and would drive a mile or two to get it to them. No need for heavy refrigeration at that time. It wasn’t long, though, before the need for more substantial refrigeration and storage arose.   Within two years, they had built the first unit to keep the ice in, and business has been, pardon the expression, hot every since.

Since expanding the business in 1978 by delivering to Long Beach,   Cubelet Ice has furnished Ice boxes to businesses in all of Brunswick County, and has units in Columbus, New Hanover, and even Pender counties.  Some of the customers that they have served over the years have changed hands and names, but continue to be loyal patrons of Cubelet Ice. More than a few have been customers for over 35 years.

Cubelet Ice, Inc has been a member of the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce for over 24 years.

So, a big salute to Lynn Holden and Cubelet Ice, Inc.  Thank you your continued support.
